Controlling your spending habits
How do I stop "maverick spend"?
The first step of Spend Control is to recognise the challenges.
- Staff buying habits: Many of your suppliers represent the personal preferences of the individual that places the order. It is a hard habit to break.
- Fragmented purchasing: You have dozens of people that place orders, each acting independently for their department / location. The result is the ever growing number of suppliers that offer similar goods and services.
- Paying premium prices: Failure to consolidate spending and negotiate the best prices from a single supplier is wasted money on every order placed.
- It is "no one's problem": Unless the company has dedicated purchasing staff (and most SME's do not), there is no one in the organisation that is responsible for solving the problem.
Compleat Spend Control addresses those challenges by:
- Identification of savings potential: As part of the project investigation, Compleat will identify and quantify the savings available from current spending across the organisation during our Detailed Spending Review. This is a very detailed report that identifies areas of savings and the Buyers Group suppliers that will deliver them.
- Controlling and consolidating purchasing habits: The client prioritises the savings and engages with the relevant supplier. The relevant Compleat Buyers Group "catalogue" items are enabled within our software and all users will then ONLY be able to utilise the nominated supplier, products and services from that moment forward.
- Delivering quantifiable savings: Every order placed thereafter will be at the discounted price, using the supplier's codes, descriptions and pricing.
- Spend Control: The adoption of the Compleat Buyers Group suppliers is controlled by each client over a period of time and priority is usually based on the savings potential. This includes contract agreements which are addressed prior to their renewal date. Over a short period of time, the organisation's purchasing habits become controlled, maximising the savings.
The key to success is making the purchasing experience for the user as easy as possible. And because it is easier and faster to use the nominated suppliers, products and services offered within Compleat catalogues, the users take that option.
Maverick spend becomes easy to identify and culprits will soon learn it is preferable to use the nominated suppliers.
